Models:

  • Extra Large Kit: 50 Containers (DK-CGXL)
  • Jumbo Kit: 100 Containers (DK-CGJO)

This kit contains everything you will need to go from hose bibb (faucet) to your potted plants. It is designed to water groups of flower pots, planter boxes, and hanging baskets with 1/4” drip emitter tubing and fogger misters. The number of containers is an estimate based on each container receiving one loop of emitter tubing. Larger containers should get two loops. If you want to automate your drip system, a Hose End Timer (DDHEDT) can be purchased separately.

Maximum Flow Rate Required when kit is fully installed (all drippers, soaker hose, and/or misters): Extra Large Kit: 110 gph, Jumbo Kit: 220 gph

Installation: Overview

You will attach a Y Ball Valve, Hose Vacuum Breaker, Filter, and Pressure Regulator to the faucet or garden hose. The supply line is 1/2” Solid Drip Tubing and is run to each container. Small containers (around 10”) will get one loop of drip emitter tubing staked inside the container. Containers over 10” should get about two loops of drip emitter tubing. We’ve included deck mounting clips for the 1/4” and 1/2” tubing. 1/2” Flow Control Valves allow you to adjust (or shut off) the water flow to sections of 1/2” main line tubing. 1/4” Flow Control Valves are included for each container so that you can fine-tune (or shut off) the water flow to individual containers. Fogger Misters are included to water hanging baskets.

Installation: Step-by-Step

Roll the tubing out near the containers to soften. Weigh it down and let the sun heat the tubing. This will make it easier to work with.

Step one: Connecting to the Hose Bibb

  1. Screw the Hose Vacuum Breaker (DD-HVB) onto the Y Ball Valve. Note: If you have purchased an optional Hose End Timer (DD-HEDT) screw it onto the Y Ball Valve first. Then attach the Hose Vacuum Breaker to the Hose End Timer.
  2. Screw the Filter (DA4-HTF155) onto the Hose Vacuum Breaker.
  3. Screw the Regulator (DD-HPR25-HQ) onto the Filter.
  4. Screw the 1/2” Swivel Adapter (DD-CHS700) onto the regulator.

Step Two: From the Hose Bibb to the Containers

  1. Attach 1/2” Drip Tubing (DD-DH700) to the 1/2” swivel adapter and run it close to the containers.
  2. Add Compression End Caps (DD-EC700) to the ends of 1/2” drip tubing. Leave the caps of for flushing.
  3. Use 1/2” Mounting Clips (DD-MC700B) to nail the 1/2” tubing to decking fascia, underpinning, posts etc. so that it is safely tucked away. At each container, use the hole punch (DD-HP250, DD-SP250) to poke a hole in the 1/2” tubing and insert a 1/4” barbed elbow (DD-L250) or 1/4” barbed connector (DD-C250).

Step Three: Watering Each Container

  1. Cut a length of tubing that will run from the 1/4” barbed fitting to the top of the container.
  2. Insert a 1/4” Flow Control Valve (DD-FCV250) at the top of the container. This will allow you to regulate the flow of water to the drip emitter tubing or shut off the water completely when the container is not in use. Complete this step for each container before moving on to the next step. Turn on the water and FLUSH THE LINE until all lines are clear of debris. Replace the 1/2” threaded end caps.
  3. Cut a loop of 1/4” drip tubing (DD-DH250) that will go from the flow control valve and loop around the inside of the container. Note: Larger containers (over 16” diameter) may require two loops.
  4. Insert the barbed end of the flow control valve into the drip emitter tubing and wrap the tubing around the inside of the container.
  5. Insert a Goof Plug (DD-GP) into the end of the 1/4” drip emitter tubing. You have extra goof plugs to cap off additional sections of 1/4” tubing and plug holes in 1/2” drip tubing (if needed).
  6. Secure the drip emitter tubing in place with 6” Wire Stakes (DD-TLS6).
  7. 1/4” Connectors (DD-C250) can be used to connect lengths of 1/4” tubing. Damaged tubing can be repaired by making clean cuts and then connecting with a 1/4” connector.
  8. Turn on your system and check each pot for water output. Use the flow control valves to adjust flow to each container as needed. The idea is for each container to receive enough water during the same time period.

Step Four: Watering Hanging Baskets

  1. Use a 1/2” Compression Tee (DD-T700) to run the 1/2” mainline up to the beam supporting the hanging baskets and 1/2” Compression Elbows (DD-L250) to make 90 degree turns as needed.
  2. Use 1/2” Mounting Clips as described above to attach 1/2” tubing to the wood structure.
  3. Use 1/4” Mounting Clips (DD-MC250B) to attach 1/4” tubing to the wood structure.
  4. Add Compression End Caps to the ends of 1/2” drip tubing.
  5. If the basket is close to the 1/2” tubing, you can insert the Fogger Mister (DD-FMB) directly into the 1/2” tubing and point it toward the center of the basket.

Maintenance Tips

WINTERIZING

If you live where it freezes, it is a good idea to drain the water from your drip lines and the components connected to the water source. Here’s how:

  1. Turn off the hose bibb.
  2. If you have a hose-end timer installed, let the system run through a watering cycle. This will open the timer and let any remaining water drain out of the timer and other components & into the drip tubing.
  3. If you do not have a timer installed, unscrew the drip system from the hose bibb for a few minutes to let air into the line. Reattach the line after a minute or two.
  4. Note: We do not recommend blowing compressed air though a drip system.

FLUSH THE LINE ANUALLY

Since drip systems operate at low pressures, sediment can settle in the line over time.

  1. Flush the line annually by unscrewing the end cap at the end of the line.
  2. Check filter screen for debris and clean if necessary.
  3. Turn on the hose bibb until the water runs clear from the end of the line.
  4. Replace the cap.
  5. Turn on the hose bibb and check the entire system for leaks.

REPAIR BREAKS & LEAKS

  1. Small holes in the line can be plugged with a goof plug.
  2. For larger breaks or holes in the 1/4” drip tubing, make a clean cut around the damaged area and reconnect the lines with a 1/4” barbed connector (DD-C250).
  3. For larger breaks or holes in the 1/2” drip tubing, make a clean cut around the damaged area and reconnect the lines with a 1/2” compression coupling (DD-C700).
